At Indian Coin Store, we offer collectible ancient coins, Indian coins, world coins, silver coins and gold coins. Because many coins are old, hand-struck or previously circulated, their condition, shape, colour and surface may naturally vary.

Unless otherwise mentioned, the photographs on the product page show the exact coin offered for sale. Please examine all available images carefully, as they form an important part of the product description.

Minor differences in colour may occur because of lighting, photography and screen settings.

Coin Condition Grades

Coin grading is an informed opinion based on visible wear, design details, surface quality, strike and overall appearance.

Grade

Meaning

UNC – Uncirculated

No visible circulation wear. Original lustre may be present, although minor storage or bag marks can occur.

AU – About Uncirculated

Very light wear on the highest points, with most original details remaining.

XF/EF – Extremely Fine

Light circulation wear with clear designs, inscriptions and major details.

VF – Very Fine

Moderate wear, but the principal designs and inscriptions remain clearly visible.

F – Fine

Noticeable wear, with the main design and lettering still identifiable.

VG – Very Good

Heavy circulation wear. Major features remain visible, although smaller details may be weak.

G – Good

Considerable wear, with outlines and some lettering still identifiable.

Grades provided by Indian Coin Store are our honest assessment and may differ slightly from another collector’s or professional grading service’s opinion. A coin is considered independently graded only when it is supplied in a recognised third-party grading holder.

Ancient and Hand-Struck Coins

Ancient and medieval coins were often made individually by hand. Therefore, the following characteristics are normal and should not automatically be considered defects:

  • Irregular shape or thickness
  • Off-centre or incomplete strikes
  • Uneven edges
  • Weak or double-struck areas
  • Small cracks or flan flaws
  • Soil deposits, toning or natural patina
  • Differences in weight and diameter
  • Wear caused by age and historical circulation

For ancient coins, overall eye appeal, rarity, readable symbols, ruler, dynasty, mint and historical importance may be more significant than modern grading standards.

Silver Coins

Old silver coins may develop natural grey, brown, black, blue or multicoloured toning over time. This toning is part of the coin’s history and may be valued by collectors.

Historical silver purity can vary according to the ruler, mint, year and issue. The term “silver coin” refers to the recognised numismatic type or composition. Exact purity is guaranteed only when it is specifically stated or supported by a recognised test or certificate.

Gold Coins

Historical gold coins may contain different levels of gold purity depending on their period, ruler and minting standard. The listed metal is based on the recognised numismatic type and available references.

Unless specifically mentioned, collectible gold coins should not be treated as modern investment-grade bullion with guaranteed purity. Weight may also vary slightly because of historical minting methods and circulation wear.

How We Assess Authenticity

Our team examines coins using a combination of:

  • Weight and diameter
  • Metal and surface appearance
  • Design style and inscriptions
  • Minting method and edge characteristics
  • Wear, patina and ageing patterns
  • Comparison with established numismatic references
  • Provenance or previous certification, when available

Every coin is offered as genuine unless the product page clearly identifies it as a replica, reproduction or fantasy issue. We do not knowingly list counterfeit coins.

Scientific metal testing, XRF analysis or third-party authentication is included only when specifically mentioned in the product description.

Cleaning, Toning and Surface Marks

Older coins may have been cleaned, polished, mounted or handled by previous owners at some point in their history. When such treatment is clearly visible to us, we will mention it wherever practical.

However, undocumented historical cleaning or restoration may not always be possible to identify with certainty.

Natural toning, scratches, edge knocks, deposits, corrosion, test marks, banker’s marks and other signs of age may be present. Customers should carefully review the photographs before ordering.

Caring for Collectible Coins

To protect your coins:

  • Hold coins only by their edges.
  • Avoid touching the surface with bare fingers.
  • Do not wash, polish or clean old coins.
  • Store coins in suitable, non-PVC holders or capsules.
  • Keep them away from moisture, chemicals and direct sunlight.
  • Store gold and silver coins separately to prevent scratches.

Improper cleaning can permanently damage a coin and reduce its numismatic value.
