Rajaraja Chola I Copper Kasu – Standing & Seated King Type, AD 985–1014 M110
An original copper Kasu of Rajaraja Chola I, one of the most important rulers of the Imperial Chola dynasty, who ruled from AD 985–1014.
The coin belongs to the classic standing-king / seated-king series associated with Rajaraja Chola.
Obverse: King standing facing right, with associated ritual objects and symbols in the field.
Reverse: King seated facing right, accompanied by the Nagari legend “Sri Raja Raja.”
This coinage became one of the most recognizable monetary types of the Imperial Cholas and reflects the expansion of Chola political influence across South India and Sri Lanka during Rajaraja’s reign.
The present specimen is circulated, with the principal figures still identifiable. It retains an old brown copper surface with areas of green patination and normal wear from circulation.
